In 2023, as the world commemorates the 75th anniversary of the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), and the 5th anniversary of the promulgation of the Punta del Este Declaration on Human Dignity for Everyone Everywhere, our goal is to utilize these anniversaries to broaden and magnify global perspectives on what human dignity means, its significance as a universal human value, and its implications for human rights, and especially for the human right of freedom of religion and belief for all people in all places.
The 2023 Human Dignity Initiatives of the International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS) at Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark Law School aim to enshrine 2023 as the Year of Human Dignity and will be an important milestone in promoting the creation and sustaining of cultures of dignity around the world, including the creation by the United Nations of a Human Dignity Day.
As part of those initiatives, planning is underway for conferences and events around the world focusing on human dignity for everyone everywhere.
